Maligned Sales

Reading – Zero to One by Peter Thiel

“If you have invented something new but have not invented an effective way to sell it, you have a bad business – no matter how good the product.”

Developing a hardware product requires an interdisciplinary team of creative professionals. A failure occurs when technical (science, engineering) undervalues collaboration with creative or business. A hardware startup needs to sell product to be successful. Sales starts at the beginning building success into the process. I see sales and marketing function often out of sync with the technical elements of product development.

What is important to my customer?

How and where does our customer digest information?

How can I craft a story demonstrating the solution to customer challenges?

How much is this solution worth to our specific community? To the larger market?

Everyone has a product to sell – no matter whether you are an employee, founder, or even investor. It is true even if your company consists of just you and your computer.
